Embrace the Gluttony, this is a Doom Metal Feast!
How is the sound ?
Beastmaker is a new Californian band which has been active since last year. They released their first EP on Bandcamp last month. With “You Must Sin” these guys have embraced the sound of traditional doom metal and bring it to the 21st century with a fresh touch. In that sense, you would hear traces of classic bands like Pentagram, Saint Vitus and Trouble but with a sound of their own.
To me, the trio is a clear example of the revival of the heavy scene all around the world. The musicianship is amazing, the guitar brings some powerful riffs and solos full of Sabbathian tones, the bass comes as a distorted pulse, full of groove and is the perfect companion to the heavy drums, providing a solid rhythm base. Beyond that, you’ll hear some ethereal vocals that remind me of Electric Wizard and Monolord.
The album starts the tone with winds effects and cathedral bells –Hello Black Sabbath!-, creating a misty grey atmosphere full of pagan and obscure references. Also, they manage some beautiful Heavy Psych passages that would appeal to fans of Trouble (Green Plastic Head era). That would be the tone for all the record, five solid doom metal tracks, but if you ask for my favorite I’ll have to go with “Heathens”.
In the end, the band provides you with a strong effort that creates a fresh view of the traditional heavy music: Doom Metal, Heavy Psych, Stoner Metal, etc. With this album, the band recommend you to sin, so welcome the gluttony and embrace this doom metal feast !

Something particular to note ?
