Received some logs in the face..!
Hey fuzzers !
Yesterday I went to my 2nd favorite venue here in Nantes, La Scène Michelet, to see 3 badass bands each worshipping “Heavy sounds” in their own way. And yeah, it was an awesome night ! Those 3 bands, and particularly 2 of them, are not the kind of music I usually listen to, but man it was in fact so sick 🙂
Sick Sad World
The first concert was a bit delayed because of some technical problems but I was not worrying too much about it, just the time to savor more my first beer 😉 So Sick Sad World is the first to come on stage, a local band who played some efficient postcore tunes. So yeah not my favorite genre, but seeing it live was great ! Songs were made of nice melodic parts that is inherent to that genre, but of course sooner than later the heavy riffs hit you in the face, combined with the typical harsh vocals ! It’s been a long time I didn’t go to a concert, it felt good to do some headbangs, just what I needed to prepare my neck for the next bands 🙂
First log in the face.
The Lumberjack Feedback
Another French band coming from the north of the country. I don’t think Lille is known for its wood production, but I can assure you these guys are real lumberjacks who know how to throw a colossal doom right into your face, and it’s not some little sticks, it’s MASSIVE LOGS that just crushes your whole head !
But wait ! You don’t even know why it’s so huge… There are 2 drums on stage !!! Yes guys, you heard me right 2 fuckin’ drums blasting amazing drum fills like an avalanche of logs on your head 🙂 This was the first time I saw something like that, and of course this unusual setting was well welcomed by the crowd, headbanging in unison \m/.
The whole atmosphere the band produces is also worth mentioning. Like you see on the picture some pure white neon lights were on the front of the 2 bass drums, 2 others were just behind the huge amps of the 2 guitarists, making the whole thing very holistic ! Of course the sound fitted perfectly with this atmosphere : The Lumberjack Feedback crafted majestic doom songs often made of very atmospheric and calmer introductions to put you into the mood, and then slowly smashes your head with heavy as fuck riffs that are repeated endlessly..!
But what I can reproach to the Doom genre in general are those very slow repetition of the exact same note, it kinda bores me when it’s too long… But that’s not the case with The Lumberjack Feedback thanks to the 2 drummers ! Imagine this : being able to hear 2 different drum fills but at the same time, yeah it’s 4 arms and 4 legs playing together to produce a sublime sound, it really blew my mind and I was not bored at all, but rather headbanging slowly while watching those 5 lumberjacks doing their duty !
Yup The Lumberjack Feedback was clearly my favorite band this night.
2nd HUGE log in the face (took more than one in fact…).
Mantar
Short video I did of Mantar…
The little stage of the Scène Michelet is way less cluttered than the previous band, indeed this German band, Mantar, is a duo. But don’t get fooled ! They deliver so much energy, it’s a big powerhouse ! Particularly Hanno the singer/guitarist who is possessed by the hate !
Again, I’m not used to see bands with that much hardcore/punkish attitude, even if I headbanged so hard ! The crowd is smaller (weird for the last concert…) but everyone seems to enjoy the heaviness and the high “Temperature Level” of those 2 guys 😉
A very powerful mix of Doom/Punk/Black Metal is what Mantar is all about ! Hanno is spitting, moving everywhere on the stage, blasting his rage on his instrument as well as in the mic, Erinc is more focused on his drumming but doesn’t hesitate to beat his drums as hard as he can, a real beast ! You really see they are living their music, that’s how you make the music sounds good and that’s why people appreciate it !
3rd and last log in the face.
In the end, it was a very cool night with 3 talented bands. A big thanks to Vince from Metalorgie for organizing this concert, my whole head still hurts after the amount of logs I received in the face 🙂
