Did you know Spain had a Space Program ?
How is the sound ?
Pyramidal and Domo are two great Spanish bands, hailing from Alicante. This is where they recorded this 5 track split in January, and as the title says these are jams, with each band filling a side of the LP.
Pyramidal opens softly with “The Siren“, including some “mesmerizing chants” by Mireia Porto (used more like another instrument, there are no lyrics) and a great tenor sax by Arantxa Marín. As Black Bombaim showed in Africa II, sax can really be an excellent addition to psychedelic jams. This track end on a heavier note and leads into the second Pyramidal track, “Motormind“, which is more in a heavy-psych vibe and will make you headbang without even noticing it.
Domo has three tracks, starting with the heavier one, “Viajero del Cosmos” (“Cosmos Traveler” in English), and well, the title doesn’t lie… It’s space-like in a Yuri Gagarin way, blasting heavy riffs like there’s no tomorrow. “Mantrastral” lets you breathe back for a few minutes, with a sound reminding the softer side of Causa Sui, before the last track, “Uróboros“. This one is a bit weird to describe. It’s a very hypnotic, slow but noisy, out-of-this-world experience.
Even with all the different styles of both bands, and even within the Domo side of the LP, this feels like a very coherent split, especially from a jam recording session !
Why is this album worth listening ?
- Domo and Pyramidal are two great up-and-coming bands
- Uróboros. If you can put this track into words, good for you 😀
- You get a range of different psychedelic styles in a single LP, from jazzy to noisy, through “traditional” heavy-psych
Something particular to note ?
You can buy the LP on any band’s Bandcamp, but for the digital edition, you have to buy each side separately on the two Bandcamp sites.
