Get lost into the Cosmic Spiral of Finnish Doom!
Hey there! I hope you got your seatbelt locked for the next trip!
This time we’re talking about a real rollercoaster, Domovoyd will take you on a real trip, flying above their endless finnish lake, across their amazing landscapes to take your soul to a deeper & higher level that you might never reach before!
After my first listen, from the beginning to the end of their debut album called “Oh Sensibility” my mind was in a hazy state, and it was not because of any magical substances, their music is pure aphrodisiac for your brain! What a blast! Their crunchy guitar sounds are all over the place, it is filling your room, your space with tremendous noises that you never thought a guitar could scream! It is generating a real chaos in their songs, you’ll be soon drowning in their deepest lake, fighting with your own & deepest fears.
Don’t get me wrong, everybody knows that nordic countries are coming with the finest music nowadays in Europe, maybe their food, maybe their lack of sun, you’d probably say to me. But the answer is still unknown. But something is definitely going on! I had the chance to stay in Finland for 6 months in Lahti and I met Finnish people who are totally different than their closest “brothers”, Swedish people. Finnish people are one of the most friendly people I had the chance to meet, but some darkness are definitely part of their soul, let’s say they got a tormented soul when winter is coming. And I think it is why this kind of music, despites the fact that is brilliant psychedelic music has a part of chaos and self-destruction in it, which gave to their songs a total and unique aspect! It is disorganised, chaotic and doomed to the bone.
It really reminded me of The Cosmic Dead, which I had the chance to see live in Paris. They are both creating a creative mess around their mind-blowing performance. Domovoyd is delivering to you a representation of their twisted mind. Driven by a strong and solid rythm section where guitars are only there to either support the bass line or filling the place with min-blowing effect! Don’t worry riff seekers! You won’t be left alone on the side of the road! Songs like Lamia or Effluvial Condenser will give you your daily dose! But you must be patient and listen to the trip first! While you’ll listen to “Effluvial Condenser“, maybe you’ll spot their tribute to one of the best Electric Moon’s songs called “Moon Love“.
I’d love to see those guys live, I’m sure it is one of those bands where, after their performance, leaves you there, still stuck in space, wondering how or when will you come down!? It is as heavy as Electric Wizard and as trippy as Colour Haze can be! Those guys managed to take the best part of every aspect of stoner rock to come up with their particular sound that make them a very original band.
But as a good news never comes alone, you’ll be glad to hear that they will soon released their new album in may! So be patient my friend! You can still listen to this album every day for a month and be ready for the next one!
Their groove is hypnotic, it sounds like it will never stop and it has never even started, it has always been here, somewhere above our heads! They managed to put colors in doom, or to put darkness in psychedelic, the choice is yours! As the album goes, the songs are getting longer, it is a true introduction to their deepest universe! They captured their true energy and are presenting it to you, a great & raw mix of psychedelic, doom with a zest of drone. They had what I loved in Sunnata, a real melody within the most crunchiest & heaviest sound they can get! Those guys need to tour a lot more, for us to worship their sounds/noises! It will give you wings to fly and an anvil to come down six feet under!
Finland always had a unique place in my heart from the experience I lived there, and listening to those guys make me miss this country even more! So I’m sending all my love to them who are slowly and surely turning their back to the cold of winter to finally feel the warm sun back on their heads!
Finland, you’re the best.
