The angriest play you'll hear all day !
I believe different occasions require different music and I think most would agree to that. With so many different styles and approaches within the fuzziverse, there’s music for chilling and tripping and music for when you feel like you gotta break something. Let’s say I Am The Sun is the latter.
How is the sound ?
In their second effort, Death Water, power trio I Am The Sun, from Bragança Paulista, Brazil, do what they do best: aggressive, primal and straightforward stoner with hints of punk and thrash metal that could break your stereo system and melt your headphones within a listen.
This is a much longer album than “Drink, Destroy, Repeat” and a heavier one at that. Lyrics are dark and themes go from good old drinking and smoking to trippy apocalyptic scenarios such as in “Mare” and “Woke Up In Space“. There’s no pause mid-tempo chill track, a power ballad or anything in between here, Death Water is one blow after the other from opener “Dark Clouds” ’til “We Know You Hate Us“, a huge middle finger to critics of the band.
I Am The Sun isn’t for everyone and they’re aware of that. “Death Water” took every aspect of the band and took it to an even further. The energy here makes it almost impossible not to wish you’re in a moshpit seeing them live. If you got a history of unexpected outbursts, I recommend locking all doors and windows before listening to Death Water.
Why is this album worth listening ?
- Amazing instrumentation and energy here. No matter how angry these guys are, they’re not sloppy.
- This the musical equivalent of a punch in the teeth.
- Amazing riffs that differ from what we’re used to hear.
In what situation you should listen to this album ?
- Driving a truck down a speedway at max speed dodging slower cars.
- At a wrestling match, either in or outside the ring.
- When you go out expecting to wake up in a ditch somewhere.
Something Particular to Note ?
Amazing artwork by Cristiano Suarez.
