Pro-Ganja-Doom-Band !
Hi there my dear friends, I (Mr. Jones) am back ! Sorry for not hearing a word from me for a while, I’ve been hibernating in Canada… I listened to my good old friend Neil’s advice, I went to Canada and smoked some pot (“The Mob Goes Wild“, anyone ?) Face to their endless mountains, massive forests and beautiful landscape, my mind and thoughts have travelled. I realized how great psychedelic music fit to some journey, a life journey. It was like driving through the desert listening to Harvest for the chilled one. Psychedelic music put colors on the two-tones landscape I was facing. How small are we in the middle of nowhere !
As I’m coming back in the middle of our Italian week, I’m writing this letter for you to introduce you to Orange Blossom Jam !
“Shit just got real” is the first thing that came into my mind when I listened to my first track from them “Bees Dance” ! In one hand I had everything to fulfilled the heaviest part of me, a crushing guitar riff in the intro, that goes with a massive sound on drums, every sound that comes out of it is very clear, very good work on that drum kit sound, I just love it ! Heavy intro: check. Shortly after I got my brain back together again, this sweet little guitar solo thick led my vagina-ears! It is psychedelia-heaviness, right here for you. It reminded me of early Yob materials, which is once again a very good thing.
I think you got my point, Orange Blossom Jam will get back on feet your heaviest zeppelin, and it will float like never before.
With their one and only release, which came out in 2012 called “Mystic Jar Of Doom” they easily demonstrate that Italian Stonerheads got a word to say in this war. I always thought I only found whisky in those jars (Phil can you hear me?), but here I found something with as much taste as it.
With only 5 songs, you will quickly add those guys to your list. I know you got one, everybody got one. Guitars are clearly up front, the closest to your ears, feels good right? Guitar riffs are here to maintain the flow, while their really good drummer is pushing everybody to their furthest limits to get the best of them.
The similarities with the amazing UK band called Earthmass is quite flagrant to my ears, although Orange Blossom Jam are more into crushing everything around where Earthmass is about setting a massively heavy atmosphere. Sleep’s influence is always floating around, the song “Forever High” is not here to prove the opposite. Enter their doomed church, have a sit, listen closely to the preacher, pray in silence and be blessed. Feel that bass drum of death ! Outch !
To make things clear, they are part of those pro-ganja-doom-band so basically everything that you’ll find there came from a good intention. Some kind of Heavy weed trip you’ll soon encounter. While waiting for their new materials I hope they will soon release, you can definitely give this great album a spin !
Thanks for reading,
Mr. Jones
