Windy Days and Mothership full of Riffs !
Hi there dear friends, looks like More Fuzz is getting everyday bigger and bigger, thanks to you people, so I’d like to thank you all for the support ! It’s always a pleasure to share what gets our engine rolling everyday, I’m speaking about music of course, not beers nor bacon strips… So a massive thanks to you all !
We (the More Fuzz crew) are trying our best to provide you the best music we can find out there ! It’s a good exercise for the melomaniacs that we all are here, it is a great challenge that you are giving us ! And today I’d like to share with you a great discovery I just made ! Those guys are from Sweden (“again?”) and are making very very original songs. Let me introduce you : S:t Erik !
To be honest with you, I came for the amazing artwork but I definitely stayed for the sound 😉 Man, what a blast ! I like to describe them as a Psychedelic/Doom band. There is everything you like in their songs ! Their great album “From Under The Tarn” will immediately send you on top of a cliff, on a windy day, as your only weapon, your lungs to scream, shout and yell! It will give you wings. Songs like “The Search” reminded me of the great song from Earthmass “Stjärna Ormr” in terms of vocals. Vocals are behind everything, it is massive shoutings that embrace all the instruments. Those two bands should tour together !
It is also with a great surprise that I quickly found similarities with that great band I reviewed about a month ago : Sunnata ! (review here). The song called “Your Highness” is also composed with samples which give a stratospheric atmosphere to it, it’s just awesome! The riff is heavy, carried by strong vocal parts. The drummer (once again?!) made an awesome work for this song, great fills which spice the riff! This one is for sure an epic song ! You’ll feel the wind through your hair !
Even though, for people who can easily say that Doom is not made for them, you should definitely give it a try, it is very accessible for every fuzz addict that you’re all supposed to be ! S:t Erik in only five songs will turn you into the dark side of the force ! “Come on, we got bacon strips” they said. But they got way much to offer! An atmosphere, a strength, emotions and a spaceship full of massive riffs ! Beware, you’ll soon worship them ! The song “Black Wall” is a total invocation, they got the main point about Doom music, they understood the importance of the silence between notes, and they handle it with care. I sometimes heard a bit of Acid King influence, especially because their voices are most of the time quite high. I like it a lot.
To sum it up, you should go and check them right away, they got a very strong potential that we all need to listen to. Heavy riffs which are not just part of a “classic” heavy songs, but epic songs, not as complex as stuff that Elder can come up with, but big pieces of meat blessed by our gods. You are now in the eye of the storm, the wind is strong blowing hard, but you’re standing still, still head banging, still thinking the weight because it is what keeps your feet on the ground and avoid your body to get lost in the storm.
Have a good one my friend !
Take care,
Mr. Jones
