Let the Blues take you..!
(see the Ruby The Hatchet review to read this week introduction)
How is the sound ?
Let’s head over to Portugal with The Black Wizards ! Yes you can’t have a more cliché band name haha :p But don’t let that stop you from listening to this very good groovy & bluesy EP !
And as we’re in the “Frontwoman Week” let’s first appreciate the sweet and catchy vocals of Joana, that girl is good ! Her soulful voice reminds me a lot Elin from Blues Pills (that you can see on the picture above 😉 ). Just one thing to say : I’d love to hear her show a bit more rage, you know like a real lioness roar ! And it would fit perfectly with the killer music behind !
Talking about music, that’s why I also really enjoy The Black Wizards ! I always loved Blues, my first big concert was Eric Clapton and he blew my mind..! So when a band have a strong blues side I often love it, and here they do it very well, by adding a heavy-fuzzy tone sometimes, it feels good !
Hope they’ll continue that way and release an even better full-length sooner than later 🙂
Why is this album worth listening ?
- Talented frontwoman !
- A superb Bluesy attitude, sweet or groovy, you have it all !
- Bloody good guitar solos with a nice feeling !
In what situation you should listen to this album ?
In you favorite friendly small bar. Blues is a matter of emotions, then this is live where you can really see if a band has “the blues” ! And The Black Wizards seems so ! But I can’t validate this till I don’t see them live, so please come play in France 😉
Something particular to note ?
“Fuzzadelic“, love that word 😀
