Gloomy Retro Rock
How is the sound ?
Nothern Europe bands have all something in common : They kick some serious asses. Could it be Stoner with Truckfighters, Doom with Monolord, Retro Rock with Graveyard, they just get it. And The Devil and the Almighty Blues who are hailing from Norway, fits nicely in the last genre I mentioned, with a subtle touch of Doom and Blues.
Deeply taking the same path as their peers from Sweden (Graveyard, Horisont), these dudes crafted a very cool sounding Retro Rock album. Indeed it has that raw, vintage tone that is so distinctive from all those bands, nothing really new you’ll tell me… Well maybe. But it works and these guys do it wonderfully well.
What can maybe added is The Devil and the Almighty Blues adds a darker, gloomier, slower layer on some of their songs. An interesting approach I think they should experiment a bit more to distinguish themselves even more from the already very crowded scene of Retro Rock bands.
Why is this album worth listening ?
- Because Retro Rock is just so gooood !
- They have that little doomish attitude to make them stand out from the crowd.
- Killer melodies & solos !
- Harsh, vintage vocals fits perfectly with the genre.
In what situation you should listen to this album ?
Wear your favorite leather boots and suede jacket, and swing your long-haired head !
(if you aren’t a long-haired what are you fuckin’ waiting for ?! 😉 )
Something particular to note ?
“Root to Root” beginning riff is so beautiful and melancholic at the same time, love it !
