All Hail the Fuzzy Paths of Satan!
There are not many chances of making a mistake if you’re good at doing the essentials. If you know how to put the ideal seasoning into reasonably common and known elements. So much about the good cooking is the seasoning, the right dosage, and that’s what makes the swiss band Hey Satan with remarkable efficiency!
How is the sound ?
In their self-titled debut album the trio from Lausanne capricious as they follow the path of groove on the Stoner Rock road.
With ten high-caliber tracks soaked in whiskey, melting the asphalt with fuzz wheels and playing a great soundtrack to pick up the road with the stereo at full volume, these guys do not skid on that highway and print a great rhythm mixing touches from bands like Truckfighters, Clutch and even Audioslave.
In the opening track “Fallon City Messiah” we are already presented to the anti-aerial battery of the guys with a track that remits (and I imagine that it has been clear in the title!) to the style of Clutch, in the vocal performance of François and also in the sharp guitar riffs. The weight is tangled to the “radiophonic” and sticky vibe of the band, one completing correctly the other.
“Legal Aspect of Love” begins with a more desertic, perhaps “alternative” line, which gives way to stunning riffs fired right in the face. The unfolding of the instrumental part shows a band that allows itself not to sound so banal and common, trying to explore itself as much as possible in the nuances.
“Sunshine Blues” has the speed dosed, calculated, showing their cards slowly. The lysergic and desertic rock is gradually been unveiled, giving the chance for the mind to imagine a kind of modern western, with horses replaced by Charger 70’s and the “duel at sunset” being performed with Glocks.
I would highlight the immense and brilliant presence of the instrumental part in the fourth track “In Cold Blood“.
Or the electric malevolence and groove of “Song for a lost mariner“, something like an up-to-date Hey Satan-style rendition to hard rock’s seventies like Led Zeppelin.
The more direct style of “Red Light Women” is also another shoot at the bullseye of these guys from Switzerland.
Be that as it may all the tracks in “Hey Satan” help to compose an absolutely exciting and incendiary debut of this swiss three-piece. The production is great, the creative power is high and the excitement is even higher. This eponymous debut album puts the guys under the spotlight and on the route of the great releases of this newcomer 2017!
