Head First Into Pure French Stoner/Psych Rock Fury!
I’m still going over this album weeks after first hearing it, and finding myself hearing something new every time I listen to it. Moon Circle is the band I’ve been listening to and contrary to their Facebook page’s description of their genre, this French 3 piece of hard backed stoner revolution is far from Britney Spears! That is unless Britney has given up that glorious L.A. music industry life and moved to France to shred heavy stoner groove’s?!
How is the sound ?
From the start this album is painted with a clear individuality. There’s really no place to go but to be driven straight through this cascade of riff’s by the charging and heavily emanating drums of Julien Leneuf.
It’s an immediate cliff dive. A head first plunge into classic riffage, delivered with a melded precision that make’s me feel like these guy’s have been making this kind of sound together for a long time. And the further I listen, the more evident it become’s to me that regardless, Mooncircle is a collective of musicians to be recognised.
There’s a clear feeling of well matched and experienced solidarity between guitarist Terence Mistrali and bassist/occasional screamer, Quentin Vieilletoile that has kept me really coming back to this record. They’ve managed to find a tone together that at time’s lulls you from a serene open sound-scape to a low heavy blend of fuzz, only to jump out and drag you into some dark alley for a knife fight of epic duelling guitars!
It’s a gradual journey of ebb’s and flow’s from heavy driving and story telling structural depths, to psych driven deep mid-sections and a blunt, in your face serving of what this trio is definitely all about, just frikin rocking!
With a dedicated vocalist to match their sound, these French fuzz rockers are destined for big thing’s.
Why is this album worth listening ?
- It’s pure rock drive and flow from start to finish
- The dynamic happening in this band is evident and the mix between classically styled and freshly whipped riffage is killer
In what situation you should listen to this album ?
- When you want to introduce your neighbour to stoner rock
- On a drunken walk home where you can be dragged deeply into this heavy mix of tale’s
Something particular to note ?
A one day studio session was all it took to lay down the guts of this record. One day! Hat’s well and truly off to that. Ear’s open for these guy’s live.
