Thundering Blast of Catchy Heavy Riffs and Majestic Solos !
Last week I introduced you to an Austrian trio by the name of “The Heavy Minds” (review here), and I told you you were going to hear again from this young label called StoneFree Records. Well I didn’t lie to you, here is Savanah, another trio also from Austria and on that same label, who is blasting some serious heavy riffage with their first release “Deep Shades” :
How is the sound ?
Those 5 tracks were really an instant love when I heard them, too bad it doesn’t last longer ! So to comfort myself I played it on repeat during those last few weeks 🙂
They just did a killer work in producing a Heavy piece of Stoner-Doom, and they really tried to avoid to sound too cliché, you know those crunchy riffs you heard a million times… No, they rather took a smarter approach by creating very catchy melodic riffs, and still managing to carry that heavy sound. To me, there are a lot of similarities with Elder’s tone & feeling, not a bad thing you’ll tell me !
To further reinforce that Elder influence, be also prepared for a lot of guitar soloing craziness, that guy is HUGE ! Sumptuous use of delay and Wah-Wah effects are just delicious for your ears 🙂 Backed by a pounding rhythm section, be sure you’ll either be headbanging hard or lose your mind on those loud & repetitive bass lines & drums fills !
Why is this album worth listening ?
- Not Stoner, Not Doom, but simply Heavy and in an impressive catchy way !
- You’ll love the more psychedelic, jammier parts where the guitar is soloing
- Great Kadavar-like vocals
In what situation you should listen to this album ?
No particular indications. But as a side-note, if these guys are as good live as in the studio, be sure they’ll make themselves a name in the scene 😉
Something particular to note ?
That cover artwork is sick ! :O Music is not only about music, images also play a good role in carrying a band atmosphere, and Irrwisch (Facebook page) did a fabulous job here !
