A Killer 2nd Album Full Of Proggish Stoner-Doom Vibes !
Savanah is an Austrian Stoner-Doom band I’ve been digging a lot since they released their debut album in 2015 (review here). Now they have the difficult task to renew that experience with their 2nd album entitled “The Healer” which was out in May, still on the same good label StoneFree Records. Let’s have a listen and see if they still have a strong fuzzy vibe flowing in their veins !
How is the sound ?
So let’s be clear from the start, this 2nd album is even better than the first one, still really strong on the heavy riffage melted with psychedelic parts and outstanding guitar solos ! The rhythmic part is also really tight, I love this pummelling bass sound !
I’d also say Benny’s vocals are even more solid in “The Healer”, he’s getting more confident and that’s a good thing.
The songwriting goes a bit more on the proggish side, moving closer to what Elder did on Lore. It gives all the songs a wider atmosphere, bringing us even more into their sound.
But what strikes me the most with this band is when Jakob the guitarist shows us his mad skills at soloing ! Man, every time a solo kicks in, it’s a burst of energy coming your way from the first note, headbanging is mandatory !
Congrats boys, let’s see what you’ll come up with for the 3rd album 😉
Why is this album worth listening ?
- Amazing Proggish Stoner-Doom in the vein of Elder
- Kickass guitar solos with the right dose of Wah !
- Solid songwriting, everything is good !
In what situation you should listen to this album ?
- Blast it between 2 Elder listening sessions, give some love for this young Austrian band !
Something particular to note ?
Get the vinyl on their Bandcamp !
