Committed to Launch !
Mr Weasel strapping into the capsule, terminal launch sequence initiated, firing command given, The Fuzzsonaut is ready to launch. Vinnum Sabbathi & Bar de Monjas bring the dark matter here, straight out of a black hole.
How is the sound ?
Vinnum Sabbathi opens the split with “HEX I: The Mastery of Space“, powerful drums and some incendiary guitars absolutely lift the lid off. A sample from the Apollo missions floats about in the background. You can almost feel your head being pressed against the chair with the Earth falling away beneath you. Brilliant stuff!
Mix engineer Miguel Fraino has done a great job here, production is tight and refined throughout. After a brief intermission were back! “Hex II: Foundation Pioneers“. Even heavier. Who would have thought it?
Onto the second half, Bar de Monjas takes their turn to dock! What a great riff, fuzz octave goodness taking a front spot. Pure spaced out groove ladies and gentleman. What makes this split great is the way these two bands compliment each other brilliantly on record, too many times have split records crashed back to earth because one side is lacking. Not the case here. Bar de Monjas pull the space epic into a bluesy, swaggering, pedal to the floor, adrenaline-soaked cantina brawl.
Enter the “Fuzzonaught“. Sleazy hunchback riffs crash into a runaway head bangers delight, and then back again. This track turns into a sweating, roaring mess, it’s great! Driving guitars and pounding drums provide an excellent platform to watch the universe slowly dissolve away.
This record is an absolute must have for any fuzz fan, a really deep, well-produced piece of music.
To all you listeners who are just turning up this split for the first time:
I know it will be a good flight… good luck and god speed…
Why is this album worth listening ?
- You always wanted to be an astronaut, but you could only ever really tune up a guitar.
- You like sheer unadulterated fuzz.
In what situation you should listen to this album ?
On board the ISS smoking space weed with Chris Hadfield and Ricky from Trailer Park Boys.
